When you think of team-building exercises you may imagine building a raft together or falling blindfolded into the arms of a colleague. The guys and girls at Armour took things a bit further though. Mike Smith, Don Tolson, Steve Arlidge, Natalie Mitchell, Kristina Fordham, Clare Johnson, Chris Gibson, Rob Reed, Maria Gill and Carl Stuart, plus two drivers John Bell and Dennis Home decided to take on the Three Peaks Challenge. This entails climbing Snowdon, Scarfell Pike and Ben Nevis (the highest peaks in Wales, England and Scotland respectively) within a 24-hour time frame, which includes driving from one location to the next. The challenge ultimately meant that the team walked the equivalent of a marathon up and down mountains in around 10 hours…with a game of Twister thrown in at the top of each mountain! Armour’s Mike Smith gave M.E.N a quick rundown on each climb; “Snowdon, was very scenic but surprisingly tough, yet a good warm-up for things to come. Scarfell Peak should be ScarHELL peak as it was hell on earth! It’s not so touristy and is relentless in its incline. We did this mostly in the dark and it very nearly broke us all. Ben Nevis meant a huge drive north to Fort William early on Saturday morning to set out on the long climb to the highest point in the UK. It was a very, very tough finish to the challenge and there was even snow at the top!”. Despite the blisters and exhaustion the team raised over £10,000 for Help for Heroes, so a massive “well done” to everybody who took part. “It was without doubt the most awesome thing like this I have taken part in,” continued Mike, “it was difficult beyond our expectations and punishing at many times on each mountain. That said, the team spirit and camaraderie was phenomenal and can only be appreciated fully by those that took part…a bond that will live long in the group. We are already planning our next adventure!”. Once again, well done to all those who took part and keep your eyes peeled for the Armour team’s next challenge!
